Sioux Center, IA - The Hastings College women's soccer team got off to a solid conference start defeating Dordt 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.
It did not take the Broncos long to get on the board as in the 14th minute, Courtney Doeschot (FR/Omaha, NE) broke past the Defender defense and looked to be one-on-one with Dordt keeper Belle Helgerson. But she knew Heidi Bartsch (SR/Lincoln, NE) was wide open to her left and slipped the pass over as Bartsch found the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.
This lead would be short lived though as ten minutes later, Dordt returned the favor in nearly the same manner.
Natalie Sakuma broke in behind the Hastings defense and had Kenzie Bousema wide open on the near side as her pass found the foot of Bousema as she placed it in the empty net to tie the game 1-1.
The game remained 1-1 into the 34th minute when Berkley Sharp (FR/Basehor, KS) received the ball at the top of the 18 yard box and found Madison Taylor (FR/Olathe, KS) with a great pass as she ripped her shot past Helgerson to give the lead right back to Hastings.
This Bronco lead would hold into the 74th minute when Sharp would break free down the right side of the Dordt defense and drop a great pass back to Olivia McMahon (FR/Omaha, NE) where she buried it in the upper left corner of the goal to make it 3-1.
That lead would stand as Dordt was really never able to get anything going on offense the rest of the way. Hastings out shot the Defenders 7-1 with a 5-1 advantage in shots on goal.
The win moves the Broncos to 7-1-1 (1-0) on the year and will be back in action Saturday Sept. 30 as Briar Cliff comes to town for homecoming with kick-off set for 5:30 p.m. at Lloyd Wilson Field.
