Hastings, NE - The Hastings College men's soccer team took a tough loss on Wednesday night to No. 12 Baker 2-0 at Lloyd Wilson Field.
It was a game where the Broncos were hoping for a top 15 result but could not find the back of the net. The frustration also piled up as questionable calls led to multiple time stoppages due to yellow cards and one red card.j
As both teams were trying to feel their way through the first half, a questionable no call where Daniel Whitehall (JR/Warrington, England) appeared to get kicked in the face had the Bronco bench and fan base lite up with frustration.
As the game continued into the second half tied 0-0, the Broncos would be unable to beak keeper Alberto Cirol and then the game would end up slipping away.
In the 59th minute, Joseph Houlihan sent a cross into the box where Austin Halsey would head it into the goal for the 1-0 lead.
From here, the game would continue in its strange yellow card fever as the Hastings bench would see two yellow cards and an ejection coupled with multiple yellow cards on the field.
Midway through the second half, Hastings appeared to have tied the game when Oscar Zamudio (SR/Humble, TX) headed home the equalizer but it was nullified as he was called for offsides.
Unfortunately, Hastings was unable to put the offense together as Baker would pick up a late goal with the Broncos pressing for a goal.
The game would finish with seven total cards with six yellow cards and one red card.
Baker out shot the Broncos 14-11 as Hastings held an 8-7 shots on goal advantage.
There were also a total of 34 fouls in the match. Joe White (SR/London, England) finished the night with three saves.
Hastings falls to 4-3 on the year and will be back in action Tuesday Sept. 19 as Bellevue comes to town with kick-off set for 7:30 p.m. at Lloyd Wilson Field.
