Hastings- It took no time for the Hastings College women's soccer team to get the lead and to keep it when they handily defeated the Baker (Kans.) University Wildcats 2-0 on Wednesday at Lloyd Wilson Field.
The Broncos (5-1) got on the board first in the 7th minute when Jenny Sells (JR/Woodland Park, CO) fed the ball to Heidi Bartsch (SR/Lincoln, NE) who got it back to Sells for the goal for a 1-0 lead over the Wildcats (0-3-2).
In the 15th minute, the Broncos got to the net again when Sells and Janine Lahey (JR/Colorado Springs, CO) got the ball to Bartsch who hit the crossbar and knocked it in for a 2-0 lead.
Second half action started with the Wildcats' first shot on goal, but that shot and the other two shots on goal were saved by Lexi Harris (SR/Lincoln, NE) who got her fifth clean sheet of the season. The Broncos and the Wildcats finished the match with multiple shots on goal in the last 10 minutes.
The Broncos look to keep the momentum going when they travel to Wichita on Sunday to battle the Friends (Kans.) University Falcons in a 5 p.m. match.
