Hastings, NE - The Hastings College women's soccer team was in another tough battle on Sunday afternoon as the Broncos would defeat Jamestown 1-0 in extra time at Lloyd Wilson Field.
With the teams locked in a tight battle with neither giving an inch, it would be the Broncos that would break through in extra time.
Courtney Doeschot (FR/Omaha, NE) thew the ball into Janine Lahey (JR/Colorado Springs, CO) and her cross would bounce around in the box and the Jimmie defender attempted to head it away but the ball would find the head of Heidi Bartsch (SR/Lincoln, NE) as she guided it past the diving Sayler for the golden goal in the 92nd minute which set off a wild celebration at the south end of the field.
Unlike the tough loss the Broncos faced on Friday to No. 3 Benedictine, Hastings was able to find the magic touch against a tough Jamestown squad.
Hastings had a few early opportunities only to see the woodwork get in the way.
In the 12th minute, Josie Knapp (SO/Lincoln, NE) hit a shot off a free kick from roughly 25 yards out that cleared goal keeper Lauren Sayler's head but the ball bounced off the cross bar.
In the 21st minute, Doeschot would also beat the keeper on the ground but the goal post rejected the ball to keep the score noded at 0-0.
From there the teams would battle back-and-forth fighting a tough south wind and and the end of regulation, the teams total shot and shots on goal were identical at 10 and six respectively.
Then the golden goal from Bartsch would finally end the match.
Emma Toohey (SO/Orange, CA) and Lexi Harris (SR/Lincoln, NE) combined for three saves in the clean sheet.
Hastings moves to 4-1 on the year and will be back in action Wednesday as No. 16 Baker comes to town with kick-off set for 5:00 p.m. at Lloyd Wilson Field in Hastings, NE.
