Yankton, S.D.- Two blown leads sinks the Hastings College baseball team as they are swept by Mount Marty 4-2, 6-3 Saturday at Riverside Field at Bob Tereshinski Stadium in Yankton.
In game one, Mount Marty got on the board first with a run in the 2nd inning off three hits and an error to get an early 1-0 lead over the Broncos.
Hastings rallied back in the 3rd inning as Grant Kraus (JR/Castle Rock, CO) hit a leadoff single. Donato Santos (SR/Manitou Springs, CO) came into the game to pinch run for Kraus, advanced to second on a Brandon Utrup (JR/Lincoln, NE) single and scored on a Reed Stone (JR/Sutton, NE) single. Utrup also scored on a Ty Neill (SR/Ogallala, NE) groundout to give Hastings a 2-1 lead.
Mount Marty tied the game up 2-2 in the 4th inning as the leadoff hitter was plunked, and scored four batters later.
The final runs in game one came in the bottom of the 6th inning, as Mount Marty scored two unearned runs off a 2-out Justin Miller double to put Mount Marty on top 4-2.
Utrup and Stone led the Broncos, both going 1-for-3 with a run and RBI, respectively.
Lance Hansen (JR/Blair, NE) struggled, allowing 10 hits and two walks in a complete game loss.
Game two started strong for the Broncos with Ty O'Brien (JR/Omaha, NE) hitting a leadoff single and scoring on a Neill single to give Hastings a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning.
Lucas Lingreen (SR/Sterling, CO) led off the 2nd inning with a solo home run to pad the Broncos' lead to 2-0.
Mount Marty anchored down and allowed only three Bronco hits in the last six innings while scoring six unanswered runs off Will Frei (SR/Omaha, NE) in the last four innings they batted, scoring a run in the 5th, 6th, and 8th and scoring three runs in the 7th en route to a 6-3 win against the Broncos.
Offensively, Lingreen went 2-for-4 with a solo home run. Utrup and Neill both went 1-for-3 with two walks a piece.
After being swept, Hastings drops to 17-15 and 6-6 on the season. Hasting looks to rebound against Mount Marty when they come to Duncan Field in Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
