Hastings - The Hastings College softball team picked up two much needed wins sweeping past the University of St. Mary Spires 6-2 and 6-4 on Thursday night at the Smith Softball Complex.
In game one, Hastings would strike first as Josie Bumgardner (SO/Hastings, NE) and Alyssa Carter (FR/Corona, CA) both came up with two out singles before Cara Williams (SR/Omaha, NE) doubled over the center fielders head bringing home Bumgardner for the 1-0 lead.
Bumgardner would keep the Spires in check through the first four innings before the Lady Broncos broke the game open in the bottom of the 4th.
Kaitlynn Knott (SO/Flagstaff, AZ) started things off with a walk and then Taylor Asche (FR/Omaha, NE) singled putting runners on first and second with no outs. Two batters later and with the runners on second and third, Bumgardner doubled to left bring home Knott and Asche to make it 3-0.
Two batters later, Williams singled home Bumgardner pushing the lead to 4-0. Still with two outs, Chloe Boeka (SR/Gretna, NE) would single and Corrin Ziepke (JR/Omaha, NE) drew a walk loading the bases for Lexie Linderman (FR/Omaha, NE) as she would rope a double plating Williams and Boeka making it 6-0.
That would be all the run support Hastings would need coming away with the 6-2 game one victory.
Williams, Linderman and Bumgardner each finished with two hits and two RBIs in game one while Boeka also finished with two hits.
Bumgardner pitched 4.0 innings of one hit ball while strikingout six.

Later in the inning, Linderman connected on the Carrie Lee offering sending it over the left field fence to make it 2-1.
The Spires got another run in the 2nd but Hastings would get a two out rally going in the bottom of the 2nd as Mikaelah Molifua (SR/Lincoln, NE) got things going with a double. Molifua then scored on the Carter single. Carter advanced to second on an error and would score on the Williams single to make it 4-1.
